The Arkın Innovation Hub is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition, “Connected Objects - Industrial Design for our Times” at The Art Rooms, Ecevit Caddesi in Kyrenia.
The exhibition will showcase over forty cutting-edge projects or devices, all conceived by Tobia Repossi over the last five years. Some of these devices have been sold in Apple Stores or by major chains, others never managed to leave the prototype stage. All of them, in one way or another, reveal some form of innovation, either in their function or their form.
Significantly too, each device highlights the manner in which modern design processes depend on the interconnectivity that exists in our world on account of communication technology.
The Arkin Innovation Hub is also part of the growing sustainability movement. This is a movement that is trying to reduce waste in our throwaway society. Thus, the exhibition has been designed to be as minimalist as possible and built it out of reusable/recyclable materials. When finished, the display materials will be re-used by the Arkin Group in their workshops or wherever they may best be put to use.
"We live in an interconnected world where even design processes are now connected.
Modern communication tools today make it possible to design objects anywhere on the planet with far less consumption of resources, with less testing and a far quicker time to market. In the electronic market, where the life cycle of a product is already extremely short, the ability to see six months ahead provides an incredible advantage.
There is no longer any real need for most of the clients and the supplier involved in the production of these designs to ever meet each other face to face because modern design tools can do everything via communication technology: all shared, all connected, all real-time.
All the projects that you see here in this exhibition have been conceived over the last five years, some of them have been sold in Apple Stores or by major chains, others never managed to leave the prototype stage. But all of them, in one way or another, reveal some form of innovation, either in their function or their form.
Take a look at the geography involved in these products; you will see that it’s not always necessary to have a substantial infrastructure in order to develop products and anyone can find a space in the chain regardless of geography or economic considerations."
